Flavor Contest!
by ChrisThanks for your e-mail, but we haven’t gone to sleep! We missed our August web site entry only because everyone demanded record high amounts of gelato, and we have been busy making gelato and coming up with new flavors. Speaking of which:
1. August was a special month for us because it marks the fourth anniversary of our Shattuck store and the first anniversary of our Castro store.
2. Some of you have asked how we differ from our competition. The biggest difference is that we make our gelato daily from scratch using dairy fresh milk and sugar, instead of using preprocessed, imported, dry base powder mixes. It is true that it is authentically Italian (in modern Italy) to simply follow the directions that are printed on these bags of powder, and reconstitute them with water or milk. But we are enthusiastically local and Bay Area on this one. For us, avoiding “gelato in a bag” alone was worth reimaging ourselves over.
To celebrate these two facts, and because we just like to celebrate, we are holding a new flavor contest! E-mail newflavor@gelaterianaia.com with your suggestion. We will select the most inspired winner next month, create a recipe and offer the flavor at our stores for one month. The winner(s) behind the winning entry will get a 4 litre insert of their chosen flavor. You can also drop off flavor suggestions at any of our stores using one of our entry forms.
