Mr. Espresso is a local company based in Oakland roasting espresso beans since 1978, which is way before the Starbucks craze. Carlo Di Ruocco, the founder, is a great guy and I spent some time talking to him a couple of weeks ago about partnering with his company to make a gelato flavor.

This year we are asking our friends in the foodservice business to partner with us to create a new flavor for our Flavor of the Week promotion.

Carlo has been around a while and has a lot of stories. We sat in his little office in their big roasting facility for quite a while talking about Italy and cycling and espresso. Finally I said, “What about a gelato flavor, Carlo?”

He said, “I don’t know. How about white chocolate and espresso? That’s what I like.”

So, here it is. Simple. Yummy. Carlo’s White Chocolate and Espresso Gelato made with Mr. Espresso coffee, of course.
